What is concurrent validity?

Concurrent validity refers to the extent to which test results correspond with the results of a well-established criterion measure when both are assessed at the same time. This means that two different methods or assessments are given simultaneously to determine if they yield similar outcomes, thereby validating that the test is measuring what it is intended to measure in a relevant timeframe.

For instance, if a new educational test is developed to evaluate students’ mathematics skills, it would be considered to have concurrent validity if its scores align closely with those from an already validated mathematics assessment administered concurrently. This type of validity helps in determining the test's immediate relevance and effectiveness in measuring the characteristic or skill it aims to assess.
